Since it's Star Wars day I want to share a story here about it. Specifically, the first online multiplayer game I've ever played in my life: Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knightpic.twitter.com/a6yWedqqbj

This person's username was "HELL", and they were the first hacker we've ever met online. I could only find these two shots of the map where HELL frequented, but this was the one. HELL would teleport around killing everyone in their path, and also used various hacks (cont.)pic.twitter.com/M42eT1LKRl
To teleport OTHER people around (including myself) and would also change their gun's bullets to literally shoot out various in-game props such as bridges, doors, etc. It was one of the most chaotic things I've ever seen. The map seen above looked something like this:pic.twitter.com/UaQcAjMSir
It was just a mess of bridges and doorways just stuck inside walls and the sky. And the thing that HELL would do is teleport every person in the match into "prisons" that he'd make, which were like 20 various Star Wars doors all glitched inside of one another so you'd be trapped.
We've only ran into HELL like 3 times back in 1997 but whoever that was, thank you for the laughs and total dread of playing this game online so many years ago.
It's interesting to look back on to see how easy it was to hack this game, but as a curious 8 year old this shit was one of the most profound things I've ever seen. I will never forget the corrupted, twisting visuals of floating bridges and space doors eating away geometry.
