My only problem with this is that it doesn't mention what a confusing mess the old behavior was. Other than that, it seems basically fine.

I think that's what
@matthew_d_green is driving to make a distinction on - nothing was confusing with the use case of not being signed in at all. Everyone keeps focusing on the "yeah but the experience of when you were signed in is better" -
Has Chrome got a flag to disable this default action? If so, then Matthew you can just use this flag to disable it and carry on using Chrome.

I don’t want to rely on Chrome’s unsupported flags. I’d rather support a project that doesn’t have this behavior.

Fair enough, just an idea. When I first saw my profile picture, I thought that I must have clicked on some setting. I clicked sign out thinking it would remove the account and it removed all login sessions and had to sign in again to access email.
