Synchronous Ajax may be the worst legacy API on the web
. Calling it stalls all UI on the network. Especially on mobile this is devastating. Browsers have been trying to deprecate it for years.
As of yesterday, ads and other embeds can no longer use this API on all AMP pages!

This should eliminate some of the worst experiences when surfing the web! The change is based on the new Feature Policy web standard with sync XHR opt-out (https://github.com/whatwg/xhr/issues/178 …).

This is one of the easiest wins to improve user experience if your site embeds third party content. There is seriously no legitimate use of the API (and it is very rare, but super bad when it is used), so you should be able to opt-out with limited business impact.
