Why did Windows 10 rename my profile folder from "ericlaw" to "ericlaw.000" and how do I fix it?

When you say "you", do you mean "All of the myriad teams in Office and Windows that presently don't do that?"

OK, you need to be more specific about what's broken and what needs fixing. What doesn't work correctly when your profile path has those four extra characters in it?

Every cached file path (in config files, scripts, etc) that refers to "C:\users\ericlaw" is broken.

Is this an Active Directory domain-joined system? Did it create a temporary profile because of (perhaps) some error loading the user hive or something like that?

AAD, and I'd assume it's something like that, although it didn't seem to be "temporary."

Check the System event log for profile/hive-loading errors.

I don't see any. AFAICT, this happened when Windows installed the latest build while Message Analyzer was open.
