Huge, maybe. Google CA will provide certs for server auth, client auth, email, and code signing. Customers of the Google PKI are the general public. We will not require that customers have a domain registration with Google.https://twitter.com/vcsjones/status/1040993859977789440 …

It takes people to validate orgs for EV code signing. Wonder if they'll offer that and at what price.

I would be surprised if EV was on offer.

Why's that? If they do any code signing certs, I would think they'd do both?

For EV SSL sure. But there are very real differences and benefits for EV code signing. Chief among them the HSM requirement and the instant Smart Screen reputation.

One of those isn't completely artificial and seen as a negative.

That said, Other People (namely @__apf__) are doing research and pointing out that DNS domains are likely not be a sufficient way to communicate identity to end users. So hopefully there might be some signed form of identity in future.

We’re talking about different things. EV for code signing is different than for server authentication.

I know. But Some People having a point of view is actually about One Person who has a point of view and it's about any form of identity for websites.
