Seen a bit of controversy surrounding this lately With regard to terminology - why would you call a coin a crypto "project" as opposed to a crypto company and vice versa?

A #crypto "project" is the platform (like Linux).
A crypto company is the legal entity that maintains that project, sometimes in coordination with other crypto companies (Linux Foundation)
Example @Tezos, there's like three main companies that contribute to Tezos IIRC
