It isn’t bad enough that we were once not afforded even the same resting place as white Americans. It isn’t bad enough that we weren’t afforded justice and equality. It isn’t bad enough that we gave our blood for this country.

I think of the bodies recently found in Texas after breaking ground via a school district that probably teaches an alternate version of our history. How ironic that it would still catch up to them, the remains of the enslaved “post slavery” barely resting in unmarked graves.

So many of us dishonor those who’ve fought, faced turmoil, and were discarded every single day. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2018/07/18/us/bodies-found-construction-site-slavery-trnd/index.html …

Hey Brooklyn! How many of us walk past Ralph Avenue, Buffalo Avenue, and Rochester Avenue, near Eastern Parkway? Did you know it was once Weeksville’s cementery? A historic village started by black entrepreneurs.pic.twitter.com/k81cehn0XP

Did you know the land was sold so the city could create Eastern Parkway? Did you know 94 bodies were moved to Cypress Hills Cemetery? Those in unmarked graves were thrown in one trench there. And the other remains that weren’t “in tact” they took to the city dump.

Northerners we are not exempt. This desecration is on your daily route. You are likely walking on history that’s been eradicated for comfort despite the many historical houses & items & burial grounds of non-PoC that are kept in tact. Gentrification ain’t new. It’s chronic.

Before you scroll, think of all the legacies hidden amongst your route. Think of all the remembrances torn down despite the struggle that brought them to fruition. Emmett Till’s sign is no different. Rinse. Repeat.
