Impact journalism - last year, I asked the essential question of how much money does YouTube bring in. Today, Alphabet caved to my relentless attempt to hold the powerful to account. Please send the Pulitzer prize to my Mom.

Not so sure yet. These companies sit on mountains of cash, but it doesn't mean they're forking over a billion dollars a year for these NFL rights. Also not sure NFL would take the cash grab. Still more eyeballs on legacy networks in 2020. Streaming remains small part of audience

The next sports TV rights competitors, should they want to be, are Apple, Amazon & Google. That should scare ESPN and delight sports leagues. Disney doesn’t have more free cash than these players and Google just reported they made more than $15 BILLION on YouTube ads last year.

YouTube generating $15B of annual revenue growing at 36% annually is the reason why started Peacock. If NBC can capture even just a little of that - recall that brands like that they actually know what content the ads will be on - Peacock will be a success.

Since I saw a lot of speculation about why Google FINALLY decided to break out YouTube and Cloud revenue, I wrote up my explanation. TL;DR: Google backed itself into a trap that forced the disclosure.

So YouTube ad biz, which makes $15 billion a year, is: - 20% the size of Facebook's - contributes 10% of all Google revenue - 6x bigger than Twitch - about 20 percent the size of entire US TV ad spent And Google bought it for *only* $1.65 billion in 2006

So Azure is bigger and growing faster than GCP and Instagram is as big or bigger than YouTube and growing faster. Interesting to see what people make of these numbers.

Apple has a problem similar to Amazon has with Prime Video, even though it's free, people don't know about it, or don't care! h/t

Holy cow. Google reveals it made over $15 billion from YouTube ads last year alone — up 36 percent from 2018 and 86 percent compared to 2017.

Apple Music continues to be a second rate citizen to Spotify when it comes to discovery, ui/ux, and just simply not being a shit app. The lag / intentional animations are awful.

It was October 4th, 2011 the day Apple Siri was announced and I wrote this on . Siri was magical. Most did not see how this would become first a platform and then SiriOS, but it will. You folks knew & know different. "Why is Siri important?" 👉
