When somebody punches down, and are called out on it - particularly on social media, they often defensively lash out with "I care about diversity of thought!". In this case the phrase is weaponized to imply "if you push on me, you're against thought diversity"

It's classic DARVO (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender). It's easy to get trapped by if you don't recognize the technique, but also easy to push back on when you do. You can reply with: "Exactly what type of thought is being suppressed? Give exact details please"

Ben Shapiro types (vacuous but fast-talking), will jujitsu with "any opinion but yours!" You can push back again. The claim of thought suppression is theirs; ergo burden of proof is on them. "Without precise examples of, you're playing victim with no real claim."

These people hate this, because it's dissonant with their internal narrative as some studly alpha bravely standing up to hordes of clawing betas. Like everyone, they're entitled to their internal narrative, but they're not entitled to bad behaviour. Push back.

Context is vital, yes! But I also believe it shouldn’t be an excuses to discriminate on race. Personally I don’t like these identity politics. I think we are all people. Maybe when aliens come, we can finally reunite

Man this is the stuff that makes you one of my favorite people to follow on Twitter AND one of my favorite board game designers.

It’s amazing how many people don’t GET what this is all about. “Woke” culture is about marginalized people not keeping quiet when insulted, put down, or ridiculed. I’ve heard the excuses that “oh I just make fun of everyone equally.” That’s a bullshit answer. It’s a sorry excuse

In practice, there's actually very little "diversity of thought" on unmoderated spaces such as 4chan or 8chan. They tend to be eventually overrun by neo-nazis and similar elements as everyone else flees those platforms.

There's that, too.
