Also: don't expect the designer to remember a game's rules perfectly. They've got about twenty different versions in their heads, from v0.1 alpha right up to the next edition they can't tell you about.

My wife keeps on reminding me how I never win when playing games that I have designed. I decided it was the mark of a well designed game if the designer is not good at it.

I take it to mean that I am a better designer than player. In my case, it's a pretty low bar.
