I’ve been playing Rising Sun with friends who are not very into board games and they’ve all loved it and praised the way the board and components are designed to make you remember the flow of the game

Is there a favorite shape or symbol you are still waiting for just the right circumstance to include as a central design element in a tabletop game?
-
Not really. Graphic elements, like game mechanics, are tools. Design is just a process of finding (or inventing) the right combination of tools to achieve desired effect.

Indeed! People advise new designers not to put work into prototypes, and while I wouldn't advise spending money on it, I DEFINITELY DO advise considering graphic design, and using colors and images rather than just black text on white cards.

This being said, I agree that a clear and clean graphic design is important for prototypes, but this often means as little art as possible.
-
Disagree so much. Check out Saul Bass. Paul Rand. Milton Glaser. You can have a completely typographic design be quite lovely if done right. :)

who am I to say that you're doing it wrong? But you're doing it wrong. :) There is, however, joy in my heart, when a designer finds a good premade color palette online that fits their game.

T.C., wasn't this type of thing on the list of things we could argue about? :)
