Imagine if Ethereum 1.x PoW crowd and 2.0 Sharding crowd can't get along. ETH1.x and ETH2.0 price splits 50/50. Every ETH-collateralized position gets liquidated on *both* chains. Every asset-backed token (USDC etc.) goes to zero on atleast 1 chain. All Dai's gone. DeFi gone.

Is it just me or am I not seeing a ton of disagreement currently

this is a contrived bifurcation, i don't see any future in which there's a 50/50 split some people in the community like PoW (see Progpow) but it's long been collectively understood as a stand-in tech.

Who is in disagreement here? Eth1.X is actively working on the transition to Eth 2

Maker should move onto its own chain, to better insulate itself from forks irrelevant to it.https://twitter.com/sunnya97/status/1112454419243773952 …

Such a bad idea. MKR and Dai benefit tremendously from composability, network effects, and security of ETH - project would die quickly on any other chain.

Ixnay the eakingspay about entralizationcay, hombre.
At least until the SEC gives Eth2 a pass like it did Eth1. Once that happens then all good.

this is what concerns me w/ Ethereum's protocol governance "rough social consensus" approach to backwards-incompatible hardforks is only justifiable where exit (i.e., staying on the old chain) is feasible otherwise, only "Szabo's Law" or legalism are defensible

Scaling isn’t a one way street now, with multiple promising layer2s shipping soon. But this can also lead to more community collaboration!

Assuming rational markets, if the system is overcollateralized (like MakerDAO is), then you actually can have a split where DAI retains value on both chains. However, collateral holders get boned... but they should have known the risks going in so I don't care much.
-
Personally I am willing to pay that cost. I doubt the price split will be 50/50. Everyone is excited about staking. If you're POW ETH you're just not ETH.
