And, yeah, it's murder. I am comfortable calling police killing people in mental health crisis, people they are supposed to HELP, murder.

There is a whole system here designed, not to keep people safe as it claims, but to keep people compliant.

Failure to comply, even when you are literally UNABLE to comply, is increasingly likely to end in you being murdered by that system.

ESPECIALLY when you are already obviously not compliant with societal norms (translation: when you are marginalized and they can tell).

I'm... sad. I'm angry. And I do not trust police anywhere near someone in mental health crisis.

I definitely do not trust police anywhere near someone in mental health crisis who is visibly marginalized in any other way.

And it's worth it to keep police away from Disabled people in general, not just folks in MH crisis.

Police kill DDBDDHH folks, folks using wheelchairs, folks having seizures, Autistic and otherwise neurodivergent folks not in MH crisis.

This is systemic ableism, often interacting with many other systemic oppressions.

It's also important to note that there are NO official statistics on police use of force incidents toward Disabled ppl.

Which means that going by media coverage of these incidents is about the best way to get an overview of what's going on.

And also, to clarify, when I talk about being unable to comply, I mean both with given demands from police AND having a privileged identity.

The more apparently privileged you are, the less likely police are to kill you. Because social norms benefit/expect privilege.

And if your skin is not white or you don't fit into a clear gender binary box or you are obviously Disabled... you can't comply w/norms.

In other words, just existing as a marginalized person is failure to comply and police murder people for that regularly.
