...I unironically love the first 60 seconds of this? I keep watching it on repeat.https://twitter.com/Quibi/status/1214963580790927360 …

It’s 4 am. I am completely spiraling around this thing and it’s blowing my mind more people aren’t talking about it. Listening to the audio alone, with noise cancelling headphones, is really special. Whoooo did the audio production on this?? It is sublime.
Whoever made this thing *loves* sound. Maybe even more than images? The audio prod on the first 60 secs is so textured/layered/rich. I know I sound unhinged, but if you have a moment, please *listen* to this audio with your eyes closed. It's a complete multisensory adventure.
Specific moments:
0:00 – 0:10 I love how the thwp thwp thwp sounds both like a film tape rolling, and also the sound of a finger flipping quickly through the chapters in a book
0:17 – 0:18 Right when the drive-in cinema starts showing in the video, an entire plane zooms past in your ears, from the left to the right. It's so unexpected but adds texture/presence to the scene. (In fact they use binaural audio in some great ways throughout)
0:40 – 0:45 (we need new words to be able to talk abt sounds without sounding ridiculous
) There's this moment where a tonal shift happens and everything starts "sliding down," and then comes the triumphant ring tone. That ring tone moment alone is *chef's kiss* but...
I also especially love how, by going low then quickly going high, it creates this...large, yawning space? It's the auditory equivalent of a supernova explosion, a quick flash large enough to briefly illuminate a *universe's* worth of stories.
I'm obsessed with this audio and I'm convinced that despite @Quibi pitching themselves as a video streaming platform they'll do some surprising things with audio.
Maybe even audio-only shows?
It fits in naturally with the phone-only creative constraint...
