Good point. Norm can be BOTH effective & counter-productive. Like repressing secessionist movements. Stores up grievances, but scares off secession (ie Xinjiang, Kurdistan under Saddam). Until system tips, when old grievances become force multiplier & invoking norm exacerbates

Humans have an inborn bias towards the family an the extensions form it. "racism" and "xenophobia" is an attempt to make this bias into nurture and not nature. Communism had the same view on human nature and lost to it.

Disagree. The nuts on the right recognize their biases much more readily than the social justice warriors on the far left. I find more difficult to have a meaningful conversation with an extreme liberal, than with a staunch conservative.
