I have created a page! My goal is to be able to fully quit freelancing and dedicate all of my non 9-5 time to my work around inclusive safety and designing against domestic violence. I'm going to be creating more resources, a website and a pledge.

As caucus workers in Iowa struggle to use the new app, a reminder of 's reporting of how the DNC wouldn't say who made the app or how they had tested it. "Iowa's Democrats hope the new app lets the party get results out to the public quicker" lololol

If you can't understand that this hole-poking process (which you asked for!) is helpful, and that taking a designer's advice makes your product better, you're more likely to fail. And you've wasted my time and lost my respect. Design feedback is a gift, and you should take it.

No more hand-holding people I agree to help for free who then get defensive when I ask questions and point out potential business flaws and bad UX. I'm a designer, I will poke holes in your ideas and point out issues with what you've made. That's what a good designer does!

From now on, when someone asks me to look at their product or hear their idea and give design feedback, I'm not saying yes until they convince me they actually want *feedback*, or until they agree to pay me. If you just want someone to gush over your idea, go to your mom.

"Focus" looks different for different people, especially those of use with ADHD (and, thus, the super power of hyperfocus!) When I see all my tabs, I'm not stressed. I'm reassured that even with my ADHD brain, I'm not going to forget about something important.

I have ADHD and always have tons of tabs open. It's a strategy and it's a good one! I need to see things to remember to deal with them. Once I don't see them, they're out of my brain. It's also why I'm intense about note taking and making lists. Tons of tabs don't stress me out.

I am really grateful for my hyperlocal news source for continuing to follow the story of the woman who was brutally raped in West Town. Even though the reporting is how the rapist continues to be a piece of shit, I'm glad they're doing it.

When the psychiatrist who diagnosed my ADHD also diagnosed OCD and anxiety, and said it was likely all related, as developing anxiety and compulsions about not losing your keys is an effective (not good, effective) coping mechanism, explosions went off in my head let me tell you

Yes, how CAN we prevent people with violent intentions from using our digital products as tools of abuse? There are actually many things we can do, and some of them are quick and simple. Come see me talk about preventing domestic violence with thoughtful design at UX Scotland!

Also, I know I haven't been posting here as much. I'm working on figuring out a balance of how much "people (mostly men) doing the worst shit imaginable" content I can consume and discuss while maintaining mental health, and it's a struggle.

I am 50 pages into How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy by Jenny Odell and already feel like it's changing my life. It's what I wanted Cal Newport's Digital Minimalism to be - all about the evils of the attention economy, but rooted in fierce anti-capitalism.

If you are a not *actively* educating yourself about people of colour and trans, disabled, queer and poor folks then I have bad news. You are not . Because guess what? You can't learn about systemic cultural power imbalance through usability testing.

"Once a user creates their profile, they’ll be able to share their location with their contacts. From his office in Auburn Gresham, Wooten can check in on his granddaughter in Texas as she leaves for school." That's sweet. How will you prevent abusers using this for stalking?
