any time someone in Washington is like "we need to pay for this important thing, why can't we pay for this important thing?" we're just going to respond with "wealth tax" and we invite you to join us.

We agree with Times editors that #WaLeg must fund special ed. We'd love to see them write in favor of the funding options for schools & communities: real estate excise tax, estate tax & wealth tax! (And let's not forget how great it is that cap gains tax funds early learning).

Eleven years ago, WA's Supreme Court promised to ensure the state fully covers the cost of special education. But that isn't happening. Is a new legal showdown brewing? #WALeg seattletimes.com/opinion/editor

🎉 It's always a good day when we have a little less Tim Eyman in our lives/on our ballots.

Gone like an office chair 😉 Tim Eyman’s wasteful advisory votes will no longer clutter our ballots, leading to easier voting for new voters, and more votes in down-ballot races! All this bill needs now is Gov Inslee’s signature to become law! #WALeg

This is great news - and the product of so much hard work.

The WA state House just passed SB 5236, the compromise bill to begin addressing the hospital staffing crisis -- the final legislative hurdle in a long process led by healthcare workers, their unions, and patient advocates. #waleg #safestaffing wasafeandhealthy.com/news/wa-house-

Valued #childcare jobs benefit both workers and the children/families they serve. Unfortunately, our country has historically undervalued the child care workforce and failed to foster healthy labor conditions in this industry. Here's what we can do about it🧵:

Apropos of nothing - nothing at all! - we're thinking about how the ultra-wealthy get special treatment. Like paying a MUCH smaller % in taxes (& leaving our services underfunded). That's why we support a #wealthtax - we want everyone to be treated fairly. #waleg

Great data from WCA - and a pretty alarming stat about County councils, which are "97.8% white when the state is only 63.8% white. And only about 1 in 4 county commissioners are women." #waleg

“The good news is Washington’s Legislature more closely reflects Washingtonians than ever before … The bad news is Washington’s county councils are a far cry from representing the people.” Lauryn Bray reports. #Representation @WACommAlliance southseattleemerald.com/2023/03/28/new
We wouldn't need to nickel and dime education - and steal from some students to pay for others - if we had ample, sustainable funding sources (like a wealth tax).

Legislators promised that this would be the year to tackle persisting inequities in the way Washington funds education. It looks like they could make significant strides forward. ow.ly/Oeze50Nu3ek @GraduateTacoma @BESR20 @WA_Charters @SeaTimesOpinion #WAedu #WAleg

Breaking news: a HUGE win! This means more kids across WA will have access to quality early learning, more parents will be able to afford childcare and return to work, and new childcare centers and schools can be built 🥳 crosscut.com/news/2023/03/w

WA State has the most regressive tax system in the country – this is a huge victory. Thank you to the WA Supreme Court for carefully looking at the constitutionality of this issue and I hope this opens the door for progressive tax policies moving forward.
