@CTMay3 Celebrity privilege, nothing to do with race.

"Former Arizona TV personalities" aren't celebrities.
-
They're of the celebrity ilk. Probably wealthy. I don't buy into the white privilege thing. Different vibe in UK.
-
Curious if UK people of color would agree with you?https://www.google.com/amp/www.aljazeera.com/amp/news/2017/10/ways-white-people-privileged-uk-171011124754885.html …

They wouldn't nor would many more besides. This guy is talking shite
-
That’s nice that you feel you can speak for POC from the UK

-
Mixed guy from the UK here. I think we're better at it than the US. But there are still like for like disparities: graduate employability, stop and search, equal pay, societal and systematic abuse.
-
Being a bit better than America where PoC are gunned down and abused in the highest political platform isn't something to brag about

1. TV guy’s name is Somchai. He’s *Thai*. 2. They were arrested. And convicted. And got jail time plus probation. The jail time portion was suspended as part of guilty plea agreement to retain custody of their child. The single mom’s charges were apparently dropped entirely.
-
Hi! 1. Like Daniel Holtzclaw, Lisaius is part Asian, part white. 2. Colorism is a thing. Lisaius's light complexion and Caucasian features benefit him in our color-conscious society. 3. OP is a comment on how the media frames crime coverage, not justice served.
-
(cont'd) 4. Arizona couple got off appallingly easy for endangering their newborn. Single mom shouldn't have been charged in the first place. Ask yourself: Why did the media use a glam shot of the Arizona couple but a mug shot of the mom? Press had access to AZ mug shots.
-
Agree w/all but #3. Just saying facts don’t match the propaganda of tweet’s juxtaposition. But media here is reverse of POC bias. Couple shown on vacay “avoiding jail time”—they’re depicted as supervillains; her mugshot highlights injustice the headline implies.
-
Sure, there's an element of "look at this outrageous injustice!" in both headlines. Still curious that they used a glam shot for the AZ couple, and quoted the man: "We made a mistake."
-
It’s because it’s so tone deaf on his part. Juxtaposing baby w/cocaine in blood w/“We made a mistake” makes him out to be sociopath. Same as recent headlines of sexual predators acknowledging “mistakes”. Headline is condemning, not defending.
-
But, again, my concern was with the misleading “privilege” framing tweet that disregarded all the facts of the cases. Propaganda.
#PostFactsEra -
Well, let's say I'm wrong and the OP means to highlight how justice was served, not media bias. Is it not white privilege that the AZ couple got off easy for endangering a newborn, while the TX mom had to rely on public pressure for the cops to drop frivolous charges?

They were arrested and sentenced to jail time plus probation, but jail time was suspended. The mother wasn’t even tried .
-
Due to public pressure. She got lucky.
-
I don’t doubt it. The system is definitely slanted heavily against POC, but felt like sharing more information on those stories since the original post left some stuff out
-
even then, look at the difference in the media coverage. the AZ couple literally endangered their kids life but the media used a happy shot of the two and quoted them “it was a mistake” while the mom’s article used a mugshot.

-
THAT is a good example of white privilege and something that occurs frequently. The headlines with super vague information? Not a good example.
-
wtf are you talking about? the headlines are the problem. that's a good example of media bias re how they presented both cases and the pics they chose. but thanks. i see you dude. go argue with someone else i already called you for what you are.
