It’s wholly appropriate that 2001: A Space Odyssey, Boards of Canada’s Music Has The Right To Children, and Pulp’s This Is Hardcore are all celebrating significant anniversaries in this same week.

Soon we will learn, analyze, opine, protest, resist, and hopefully evolve. But for now I'm just heartbroken picturing people with the same sort of goofy-looking 3D badge that I once wore, dangling off the side of a rushing gurney. Much love to YouTubers and Googlers.

Good to see and back in the lineup tonight. That last game against Utah was a reminder of “Oh, this is what’s like to have a *normal* team.”

The truth is Facebook not only allowed but facilitated data sweeps of your friends by shady apps since it was made. Do you know how many co’s harvested & sold detailed profiles on you? How many friends traded your data to play FarmVille or find out which Kardashian they are?

Oakland season prediction: Based on shaky starting pitching, strong bullpen and good power, prepare for many games where the A’s fall six runs behind, rally in the middle innings, and eventually lose 9-6.

Please ask “Is this incremental spending or are you simply redeploying head count and assets of your current search quality initiatives?” If the latter, don’t brag about the money, just say you’re shifting priorities. That would be fine, too.

As discomforting as the news is about Facebook and Cambridge Analytica, everyone’s next question should be: How many other entities out there are running a “we’re using the data for academic research” scam? And for what?
