So he used a more colloquial word from his own language. If he were Chinese it would've been "Coolie", if English possibly "Drudge"

But since he was Czech it was "Robot". And since few non-Czech speak Czech, when the word took off the connotation was lost

Also in Transilvania up to 1848, workers had to do ”robotă”, to work 18 days a year for free for the local lords.
