I say this because I’ve had an awakening in my own life about codependent relationships; as a result, I see a staggering degree of codependent dysfunction in North American Buddhism.
Buddhist institutions in North America are so dysfunctional they are beyond help. It’s not even worth the effort of trying to fix them. Walk away, start over.

The essence of a codependent relationship is diagnosed as ‘trauma bonding’, poetically described as ‘fusion at the wound.’ Buddhism in North America is built around trauma bonding at its core.
