That's how I felt about New York City until around 1993, the beginning of an approximately 20-year period of being very proud of the city I lived in, which makes it sad to see what has happened here of late.

I really enjoyed my five years there. It was pretty cool living there. Restaurants, baseball, and Daley (who was mayor) seemed to have a better control on the crime at that time.

In the old days, the police where brutal. Utterly brutal. To EVERYONE! Race did not matter, you messed with the cops and they’d beat the sh@t out of you. But they were also your best friend when you needed them. It worked.
