The most common piece of advice I’ve received from men over the course of my lifetime is to ignore harassment. It’s explained that doing so is the least painful option for me, presumptively because the harassment itself is fixed. Unsolvable. That rarely seems to bother them.

The challenge for men is that we don't have better advice. I know ignoring harassment won't fix it. I do believe we need systemic changes & encourage people to work towards it. But, in the moment of conflict, battling back just seems to feed harassers who want the attention.

We need to work on better policies w/consequences. We need to report bad activity to appropriate authorities (work, social media, legal action, etc). For men, WE need to also be allies. There just isn't one perfect answer & most men probably mean well with our shitty advice.
