TIL when the feds sends a fed informant to spy on you, it's ok as long as the informant is a member of your political party. Even if you're running for president and the informant supports the other party's candidate! Also, it started pre-Downer/FBI contact. What was the basis?
One of the problems with @ChuckRossDC's story is he makes no mention of the publicly known March FBI concerns about Page.

As to the informant, you can refer to the FBI DIOG--or any other CI case--and find a slew of informants. Usually, they're a lot sketchier than Halper. The FBI did NOT use a lot of techniques v Pap that were available to it at that level.

I'm not a GOPer and will still allow the techniques may have been valid. But story of probe origins have shifted so drastically since the beginning, the public absolutely needs to learn what was known by who, when? Were there even 4 suspects when the probe started? Based on what?

There were individual investigations (not sure what level) into Manafort, Page, and probably Flynn, based on their own actions before Trump. Why CI investigation into whether Trump's campaign conspired w/RU on hack-and-leak is a different Q, which is Papa issue.

Possibly a different Q. If Papa was setup by Downer (and there's a variety of details that make that plausible), next question is where the info on Papa/Russia actually originated. Why was Mifsud meeting w/ Boris J in UK in 2017 if everyone knew he was a Putin asset? Lots of Qs

If Downer set up Papa, why didn't ANYONE use that set up? The entire notion is crazy, frankly, bc it is utterly inconsistent with everything that came later.

The "how this started" narrative has become a mess though. If cointel, why not contact campaign and warn them of issues w/ Page? NYT said probe started w/ Downer, but now it started just off Page hire? Attention going to turn to Downer/Mifsud now. Was Downer/Papa meeting setup?

How this started is a sloppy question. How Carter Page bc focus goes back years. Same is true of Manafort. How full investigation into TRump camp is a different question.

So in other words you're using a measure that has been invented by Nunes for maximal effect which (in part) hides that Trump hired a bunch of people about whom FBI already had individualized investigations into, unrelated to Trump.

Chuck also still has not acknowledged the Wed NYT scoop that the FBI believed Page reported back to Moscow in 2013, which would be very relevant to the later FISA applications (on which Chuck has reported extensively). Someone should run that by him - I think he muted me.
