Manafort’s “primary client” was Oleg Deripaska, a Russian oligarch. But you have to remember that the events in the Manafort indictment happened years before the 2016 election.

The thread began w/ a discussion of Manafort’s business dealings w/Russians & Ukrainians. I noted that those events occurred years before the 2016 election. emptywheel believes the business dealings occurred later bc Judge Jackson mentions other stuff that happened after 2017
I assume that just means his consulting clients. Trump wasn’t a client; Trump was his boss.
I'm being somewhat snarky. But actually Stone and others have argued that bc they weren't paid he wasn't the boss. We'll actually see that claim developed at length before we're done, I'd bet money.
