yeah, I phrased that poorly. Meant the parallels between the deals and the politics are strong, but wasn't trying to predict GOP members would cave so much as point out that's what happened in 06.
Which really raises some question abt why GOP isn't running away more quickly, especially as compares the more competent and more mainstream Bush Admin.

it wasn't overnight in 06 either. there were a couple of NE Dem Senators with really aggressive flacks who pushed things along until the fire went bipartisan. Pete King, naturally, was the first to flip.
