Aside from the fact that this is from Strassel, who's a raving nutjob, consider what the GOP has argued in recent weeks. 1) FBI should have warned Trump that his campaign was infiltrated w/suspected RU CI problems 2) FBI should have done nothing else about themhttps://twitter.com/ChuckRossDC/status/994731844095668224 …
Perhaps not personally. Likely a request to MI6. But that seems like what you want to happen, no? Also, given reports, it was NOT based off dossier exclusively, it was about general leads.

Know what didn't happen though? They didn't get George Pap's call records until the next year, after he was out of transition. Thus far only evidence of LE (as opposed to CI) activity while someone was affiliated w/Trump was Flynn.
-
They could have been unmasking George Pap. Most of his contacts were with foreign nationals.
-
Oddly, the record doesn't support that.
-
The record DOESN'T EVEN reflect backdoor searches. FBI had to have gone well out of their way to avoid finding some of what they should have found on Pap months earlier than they did.
-
So again: my question. Should the entire USG have avoided any CI work to investigate the suspected RU targets sidling up to Trump? You've said they didn't do enough. I agree: they should have gone LE sooner. Do you agree with that?
-
I think they tried to verify the Dossier and failed but wanted to keep it going. They should have stopped when the Dossier was a dead end
-
Except EVERY THING you're talking about that is fairly clearly driven at larger issue. Page is the only one we know of in the dossier. The rest are NOT dossier (including Downer--that meeting precedes existence of dossier).
-
You guys are all so torqued up about the dossier you're inventing time machines to try to pretend that a bunch of concerns that pre-dated the dossier must have come from the dossier. And ALSO pretending that MI6 wouldn't have started sniffing into concerns themselves.
