Because that is pretty much where the GOP is at now: No one who once served on a POTUS campaign can be investigated as suspected spy targets even after they leave the campaign.
What stops Trump from claiming that Warren is a suspected spy when she runs against him in 2020? I’m sure he can come up with something at least as good as a fake pee tape.
