Rather than normalizing Cohen's grifting, how about expressing horror, then pointing out that the Roberts court made it almost impossible to prosecute it?
I believe I've done the latter numerous time. WRT garden variety sleaze, I'm actually more concerned about Pruitt, bc his is having a demonstrable impact on policy. But garden variety sleaze is not why people are focusing on Cohen's.

I think this gets to a dilemma faced by all of us who have been paying attention: the tension between savvy ("'twas ever thus") and outrage. Too much savvy, and we normalize evil. Too much outrage, and we sound naive. I don't know what the answer is.
