Lots of Haspel coverage catalogued her refusal to answer questions. But few are considering the import that she all but admitted to pushing to continue torture in 2005. https://www.emptywheel.net/2018/05/09/ron-wyden-makes-it-clear-gina-haspel-pushed-for-torture-to-continue-in-2005/ …

The biggest danger of Haspel isn't, IMO, that she'll restart torture. It's that she'll use the same anti-democratic bureaucratic tactics CIA/she used w/torture to protect the agency after it executes another stupid order from POTUS.

And THAT's why
@RonWyden emphasized the timing of Haspel pushing to continue torture in 2005-2007: bc she CAN'T, as she did wrt 2002 torture, blame the panic after 9/11. She was pushing to keep torture 5.5 years later.Show this thread

Haspel is another unqualified tRUmp appointee who will lie and say whatever it takes to be confirmed. Then, her true colors will come out while she fucks the country.

On the contrary: Haspel is undoubtedly qualified. Just not suitable.

Not to argue with you (you’re more knowledgeable than I about this & many other subjects), but not suitable = not qualified. The woman is crazy and will absolutely carry out any of tRUmp’s whims without hesitation

I really want to distinguish between her service -- which many people hail -- from the extent to which such service makes her a good pick. She has more direct experience for the job than almost any other Trump nominee.
-
That is true. It’s not like Devos or Carson. I see your point.
