Here's why Haspel's all-but-confirmation that she pushed to continue torture in 2005 is important: 1) CIA started torturing Abu Faraj al-Libi immediately after taking custody of him--no pretense of seeing whether he'd cooperate.

2) By torturing him right away, CIA basically forced the WH (and DOJ) to reauthorize torture in 2005. 3) Torture didn't get al-Libi to admit to knowing a courier who still communicated with Osama bin Laden.
