Here's why Haspel's all-but-confirmation that she pushed to continue torture in 2005 is important: 1) CIA started torturing Abu Faraj al-Libi immediately after taking custody of him--no pretense of seeing whether he'd cooperate.

2) By torturing him right away, CIA basically forced the WH (and DOJ) to reauthorize torture in 2005. 3) Torture didn't get al-Libi to admit to knowing a courier who still communicated with Osama bin Laden.

4) CIA used al-Libi's complaints about not being able to hear well as an excuse to torture him. It turns out he was telling the truth.

OK, so narrowing down the timeframe for her Damascene moment. She was stricken by conscience sometime after 2005. Good to know.

she's awful but so is the CIA so they're perfect for each other. Not like there's anyone who could make CIA function morally
