@emptywheel Has anybody heard Veselnitskaya speak in English. Every time I’ve seen her interviewed, it seems to be through a translator. She appears smart & her work history seems to imply she must understand the nuances of English well.
I haven't. It's a key issue regarding her use of the word "informant," though, and her written statement to Grassley does include signs of struggle with English.

Yes. But given her written English as exhibited in her statement to Grassley, I'm not sure we should assume she knows those connotations. All the more so if it was a spoken interview.
