I'll add one additional thought -- Goldberg's deliberate choice to go public also had to send a chilling message to Cohen (the boss knows you're going to rat him out). Doesn't that ironically force Cohen to do just that?
I can't think of any better way to make Trump go absolutely nuts than to say his closest advisor might wear a wire.

Goldberg going on record w WSJ is prob intended to alarm & solicit/amplify other Trump whisperers to tell Donnie to fire Rosenstein ASAP. Prob disappointed and/or concerned his private advise didn't/won't take, in dumb mobster fashion Goldberg went public to WSJ.

I don't think Goldberg would've spilled these gems to WSJ primarily to warn Cohen. Goldberg must have some clue he's risking his ass & Trump's; he could've warned Cohen privately, directlly or w intermediary, & that'd have been better Cohen plan vs telling WSJ he'll flip.
