You might have noticed that ABC did not air Comey's comments about not knowing whether the dossier was credible even by the time he was fired. #ComeyInterview

I mean, that's pretty cool since Comey signed three FISA applications against Carter Page extensively citing the dossier as justification.

My understanding was that the FBI used information from Steele, not necessarily the "dossier." Among other things, he had spoken to agents. (Nor do we really know how extensively he was cited - we have only dueling HPSCI characterizations.)

They used information from Steele about Carter Page which was included in the dossier. It's six of one, half dozen of the other if the information hadn't been verified.

On the assumption that it's identical information, maybe. But, for example, an agent would have had an opportunity to ask questions, etc. None of us has seen the application, and from where I sit it's important to be mindful of the details we don't know.

Ok, but have you seen or heard of any evidence that Steele gave the FBI other information about Page that hasn't been released? Also, FBI/DOJ do not at all dispute that they relied on the dossier. And Comey says in this interview he didn't know if it was credible.

I haven't, but that's my point - we shouldn't assume that something doesn't exist because we don't know about it, because the one thing we know with some certainty is that there's a lot we don't know.

We should also not pretend that the government doesn't routinely rely on consultants for search warrant applications, that those consultants are usually FAR more reliable than the informants equally relied on, and that gauging on past reliability, Steele was better than most.

Either those who want to squawk abt use of Steele dossier should put it in the context of what happens with search/FISA warrants all the time, or they should admit that this is just a partisan concern abt someone widely agreed to be serious CI threat.
