And fwiw, I absolutely agree with those who say slavery and genocide of Native Americans was a lower point. But it’s worth noting that white people find this racist their own low point.

I agree, but to be fair, it says "That you remember" I remember Nixon and Watergate and this does seem lower than that. Hardly anyone took seriously my mother's fear that Nixon would find an excuse to declare martial law & suspend elections. More would share her fear now.

The difference was there were actually republicans then that had the backbone to stand up to Nixon. Took a hell of a long time, but they did. I don’t see the GOP of today having the courage. PAC $$ is too influential.
