Last week USG sanctioned a guy named Grigoriy Viktorovich Mokchanov for his role in the DNC hack. They knew he was a senior GRU officer as of April 2016, but not much else about him. Maybe he's the guy who "slipped up" with the VPN? https://www.emptywheel.net/2018/03/22/the-daily-beast-guccifer-scoop-and-those-gru-officers-sanctioned-last-week/ …

Also, in light of news that USG has tied Guccifer persona to GRU, worth looking at how fucking squirrelly Roger Stone was about G20 in early March. https://www.emptywheel.net/2018/03/22/the-daily-beast-guccifer-scoop-and-those-gru-officers-sanctioned-last-week/ …

I don't believe in 55-62 years old GRU officers sitting on twitter accounts. At this age they could be colonels of even generals. There are lot of young lieutenants to do it.
-
That's what I would think (as I said in my original post)! But who knows what the US and Russia ask 55-62 yos to do these days? In any case, April 2016 is an interesting time for last seen.

Sergey Afanasyev is deputy of head of GRU. It's officialhttps://russian.rt.com/article/300125-zamestitel-nachalnika-gru-genshtaba-dopustil-vozmozhnost-soyuza …

Jeebus. You're fact-checking for US Treasury now.

and this news from "April 2016"

Maybe I c&p the wrong name. Let me double check.

The same crappy release, I should say, included no passport data, in spite of the fact that USG has to have passport data for 3 of the IRA indictees.

If Guccifer 2.0 is GRU, does that make Roger Stone one of his minions? (Ducks)
