1/ I want to say a few things about how over-hyped I think Cambridge Analytica is. 1. They were working for Cruz and Trump beat him with almost no organises digital campaign. 2. By far, the best funded and most experienced digital team was Hilary’s, not Trumps’

It's not over-hyped.He's leaving out a few things. 1) Kogan and The Russian Connection 2) Possible breaking of election laws 3) An entire bag of dirty tricks 4) The deliberate creation of fake news for massive dissemination. Miller has some good points, but over-hyping isn't one.

By over-hyped I mean 1. They were unusual in doing this. Actually a lot was industry standard. 2. They made a big difference. I doubt they were more effective than Hilary’s team. 3. This is new. It isn’t - Andrea Sepulveda did all your points across Latin America 10 yrs ago.

Has anyone argued that they made a big difference? In reality, they would only needed to have made a small difference (ca. 35k voters) in order to change the outcome.

Normally, supplying the margin that wins an election would be considered a "big difference."

But that would only be the case if they were more effective than what Hillary did for reasons Hillary couldn't access.

The point of all this is to win. By definition, more effective = winning. As a critic of Clinton's campaign - I believe she should have and could have won - it's possible she had equivalent tools. What she didn't have was an equivalent campaign. Trump beat her (Fairly or not)

If she had equivalent tools (she spent millions on digital, so I sure hope she did), then you'd need to make a case that building psychographics illegally made the margin. Otherwise it's just execution.

Sure, but that’s huge. I’ve no way, nor does anyone else, of making a technical judgement at this point. We can say, though, they knew where to go and what to do, and were markedly effective in doing that. We’re probably saying the same thing in different ways!

Yeah. I'm just saying that CA making difference (if it did) only matters if making the difference relied on using illegal data rather than just better execution.

She might have equivalent tools, but may not have had equivalent information. That’s the key point. It also misses the big picture, which is another level of criminality involved in the Trump campaign.
