Good perspective on the McCabe firing. And more so than the firing itself, Sessions's involvement in the termination, despite his recusal, may be the most immediately concerning aspect of all this. Sessions is trying to pull a Nunes, though hopefully he'll have less success.https://twitter.com/emptywheel/status/975062387698077696 …

That's the central irony though: if he pulls a Nunes, it means he says and Rosenstein may not be fired right away. Had he not done so, Pruitt would have done it willingly.

Yeah, from the rest of the country's perspective, the optimal outcome here probably is Sessions doing just enough Nunesing to save his own hide, but not enough to get through whatever shields Rosenstein can put up. ... but geez that's a pretty delicate balance to bank on.

True. But Rosenstein, much as I question his spine, is 10X smarter than Sessions, and likely being handheld by Mueller.

I've started to think that, once the history books are written, Rosenstein is going to get pegged as a morally uninspiring chameleon who also just happened to be the exact right man for this exact job. A stiff spine would've broken in this storm, but the reed survives.

Well said. I agree. Even Sessions, the weasel who nevertheless is clinging to the position of AG, may save us. This whole thing requires people to understand how the most direct path is probably going to fail, but that's hard to do.
