OK, but if you were his attorney, is there a way to prevent his testimony to Mueller's GJ from being used against him in a state prosecution?
What state charges? It's not even clear what legal risk he faces, aside from being one degree of separation from a conspiracy with Russia.

My underlying question, for which I've been unable to find an answer: If the feds offer you use immunity, can you still refuse to testify (invoke your 5A rights) to a federal GJ w/o being held in contempt b/c the feds can't immunize you from state-law liability.

I believe so. Same reason a pardon doesn't help prevent testimony.
