I wonder whether Nunberg's more interested in protecting Bannon (who's the most surprising name on his subpoena) than Trump. https://www.emptywheel.net/2018/03/05/the-nunberg-subpoena-is-he-protecting-bannon-rather-than-trump/ …

It is sad that this whole affair is making otherwise fair minded people think grand juries are good or somehow ameliorate society's problems (they are actually bad)
-
They seem a pretty effective tool for discovery when witnesses refuse to cooperate fully. If you feel the GJ might be too fast to indict people then there's the backstop of legal due process through the courts (as for any other trial).
-
I don't think it should be possible to grill people about things without charge. The idea of charging people for trying to "right to remain silent" is wrong. A radical friend of mine got hit by a subpoena minutes before I ran into her one day - she spent months in jail silent
-
Grand juries are notoriously bad at generating charges against police (at least at the state level) e.g.https://www.minnpost.com/politics-policy/2015/12/grand-juries-have-become-increasingly-controversial-cases-involving-killings …
-
https://triad-city-beat.com/north-carolina-social-worker-defies-grand-jury-subpoena/ … people face huge jail time for refusing to snitch against left wing and radical people. it is a tool of the system to crush dissidents, above all else
-
England, home of the Star Chamber, abolished grand juries in 1933 because they were actually badhttps://www.pri.org/stories/2014-12-04/england-abolished-grand-juries-decades-ago-because-they-didnt-work …
