To state the obvious -- a lot hinges on what if anything Papadopoulos told others on the Trump campaign about Clinton emails and what they did with that information.
-
-
Not to mention the improbability that Pap would be sharing this detail with random people over drinks but not with the campaign itself.
-
We don't know what he actually said. He could've just been theorizing like all of us were. What would Mueller have charged him with?
-
To Downer? Sure we do. He said the Russians were going to help the campaign by anonymously leaking something, though didn't specify what that was.
-
So where's the crime?
-
Not sure what you're asking.
-
I thought you were suggesting that Mueller went easy on Pap. What else could've Mueller charged him with?
-
Elsewhere (not in this convo) I've said FBI actually was fairly conservative abt how they proceeded in this case. https://www.emptywheel.net/2018/02/09/george-papadopoulos-call-records-were-not-subpoenaed-until-after-his-interviews/ … But my comments abt how this was charged have to do w/how you roll out cooperating witnesses to maximal effect.
-
Hopefully we can get some more information soon.

So you think the fact he deleted his Facebook account and ditched his cell phone days after lying to the FBI in his second meeting with his lawyer present wasn't enough to warrant indicting Papadopoulos?
-
"In the way he did." There's no way you write up the lies like he did. https://www.emptywheel.net/2017/11/01/the-false-statements-george-papadopoulos-made-about-dirt-were-designed-to-hide-whether-he-told-the-campaign-about-the-emails/ …
-
I see what you are saying.
