I was going to bring this up too! If you put a paper towel over the mouse trap, it just jumps and startles them. Won't hurt them. Added advantage of working even if you aren't around so they don't learn to jump off furniture when they hear your car.
So set mousetrap but a paper towel over the top is enough to keep her from being hurt?

It's the way I've always used to train dogs to stay off something and I've never had them get snapped by the trap. I don't want my puppies hurt either. It's such a light trigger. It would just fly up a bit and startle. Test it first so you're comfortable!
