what did you think of Risen's article? You may have already addressed it, and I just missed it. If so, my apologies.

I was unenthused by it.

Catching up from several days in Babylon. May circle back to it or just do my own, state of the RU investigation, bc I haven't liked any of them so far.

That’s just dumb. Conspiring with an *adversary* to gain power and subvert the electoral process of the US—to the detriment of the US and the benefit of the adversary—resembles treason more than it does anything else.

Understand the point, but come on -- doesn't *remotely* resemble treason? Not even remotely? Working with a (hostile) foreign power to harm the United States? That might not tick every box for the dictionary definition of treason, but I see some "resemblance"

So if Russia did attack us, using cyber warfare cuz it was 2016, not 1816, and the
@GOP refuses to admit it, does it make it any less true or treasonous to aid and abet them? Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I am pretty unimpressed with this analysis. Yes, as a basis for prosecution treason is very narrowly defined, but we’re not in court. Colluding with a hostile foreign power to rig an election is well within the scope of what ordinary people consider treasonous.

James Risen delves into the scope of treason. I would want to hear him out bar none.https://theintercept.com/2018/02/16/trump-russia-election-hacking-investigation/ …

I think it would be helpful if scolds against even colloquial usage suggested an alternative that captured the gravity of what we're talking about.

1) to your point, few are familiar with the Constitutional history or wording so who cares 2) the Constitution is purposely flexible so maybe time to modernize the meaning of the “T word”

What is the word we use for what Trump has done?

So treason is out, but only because we haven't formally declared war against Russia? It would seem like installing a witting puppet President as a sort of a modern mis-information coup is quite cleary an act of war when/if discovered.

Your narrow definition of enemies may be correct legally, but it's blithe and dangerous ignorance. “You can lose the war even if you have overwhelming advantage—militarily, economically, technologically—if you don’t recognize you are at war” - Gary Kasparov

It's tempting to throw the accusation out, if only to cut through the willful obtuseness of Trump supporters. Better, though, to say POTUS is compromised.

My only complaint is the bothsidism in the article. Yes, people are calling Trump treasonous, but this is not the first or only time the word has been misused.

What is shocking is the fact that this idiocy is being spread by people who know better.
