You found that persuasive?
Thank you, I will give this piece a read once I get dinner started.
Soooo she thinks it’s important to remain friends with people with abhorrent views because? Not sure I see the point that she is reaching for—if you are a Nazi then we can’t be friends. That’s it.
I read the piece, & while I understand the perspective, I wonder, at what point do you "call" the intervention? Do you ever give up? If someone is a Nazi & they're still a Nazi after 10 years of you trying to wear them down, is that productive?
I also wonder how the targets of Weev's racism feel about it. Do they see that as valuable, or do they find it hurtful in the way some trans people said they were hurt by Chelsea Manning palling around with alt right figures who have said hateful things about trans ppl?
I dont know what the answer is, but I remain conflicted. I do think there is great value in confronting racist family members in the way Quinn described in the article. I feel iffy on expanding this to friends because its hard for me to comprehend how to be friends w a Weev.
Family is one thing because you don’t get to choose them—but, if my family members were Nazis I think I would be able to end that relationship. But “friends”—why continue engagement with someone who holds such awful opinions—unless, on some level, you think that’s okay.
We stay in it for family because its hard to give up on someone you love, even after years. I think the tactics in the article work better on a lesser degree of racist. Some you can bring back from the brink. A nazi whose been a nazi for years? Why expend the effort
