Has engaging with Weev for years done anything to make him less of a Nazi? I don't mean to pile on, I know these issues can be complicated. I really appreciated the piece she did about her surgery. I am a chronic pain patient who has had several spinal surgeries, & it spoke to me
You found that persuasive?
it's a tremendous form of privilege to be able to see being a Nazi as some sort of personality flaw and not a raging threat. Pretty blind of her not to recognize that.
Norton's defense: her "racism" etc was speaking the language of groups with which she was "embedded." Only, she's not Serpico. Saying her use of the n-word or f*g was "performative" is tin-eared & tone-deaf to those at risk, without the luxury or privilege of "learned engagement"
I'm definitely a flawed human. I do not believe that white people are subhuman beasts who should be eradicated, however. I also don't believe that anyone who believes in white supremacy are just expressing innocuous opinions.
Calling neo-Nazis friends goes beyond engaging with them. There is nothing worthwhile to be learned from them, unless the goal is to ensure no one else becomes one. Being a neo-Nazi is not a character flaw.
Should I be tasked with doing all the emotional labor for a white cis non-marginalized who's racist, homophobic, and complicit in her misogyny by subjecting myself to her engagement?
Your moral compass is fucked if you think her frequent use of racist and homophobic epithets and friendship with a Nazi are "very flawed" They're an ideology that subjugated and killed millions.
