Bannon seems more interested in trying his chances first with with Mueller than with Trump/Nunes
I'm not sure it's a matter of "try his chances." I just think he may be more likely to get away with testifying honestly with Mueller.

Lock in his testimony with Mueller and he probably will never have to testify in Congress again, right? At Mueller’s request?

I think Congress is only shying away from people who are legit targets and there's no reason to think Bannon is.
