Dear Reporters: Every time someone makes a claim like this and you DON'T ask, "then why did you just give FBI more authority to spy on Americans w/o a warrant," you're abdicating your job.https://twitter.com/stevenportnoy/status/958358730319462401 …
1) You've got the details wrong. Virtually all of them. 2) Coats/Sessions FOR THE FIRST TIME successfully kept unlawfully obtained info on Americans--that's how the abuses were resolved. So Coats/Sessions deviated from past practice in lawbreaking.

And btw, I was the first person to do analysis on that memo and unlike every other person who has done so know what normal reauthorization memos look like.

Indeed you did. I understand how confusing this is for people who know fuckall about what they're reading.
-
riddle me this. if coates/sessions did this. why does the report call out errors in upstream collection dating back to 2015? Citing numerous errors that always lead to over-collection and widespread unauthorized access? BTW really no need for condescension.
-
The memo alludes to errors in upstream collection dating back to 2007 (it's not allowed to allude to the outright upstream collection lawbreaking from 2002-2007). And it ALSO notes that it was letting Coats/Sessions break from past practice by KEEPING illegally obtained data.

Btw, one of the reasons I'm pretty sure I know more about this than the propagandist you read this from is bc I reported on the problems in 2016 before the FISA memo came out.
