Wray was far better than most (not all) of Trump's FBI candidates. But I suspect we didn't get a guy who had a good idea of how to turn the tables on a bully.

Wray is one of the ~4 people outside of Mueller's team who has best visibility on what Mueller is doing, today, tomorrow, next week. Maybe he thinks if he can buy a week all the momentum will shift. But how many concessions has he already made on FBI independence?

Has he made a substantive concession yet? The work goes on just the same with McCabe and Baker’s replacements.

Would we for sure know? Agree work goes on w/McCabe and Baker replacements--and am actually intrigued by pick of Harmon at CoS for his Hanssen background. But what if Trump fires Rosenstein overnight?

Nixon thought he had a toadie when he named Jaworski. Jaworski was appalled when he saw the evidence. Unless Trump can name Ivanka to run the investigation he cannot know for sure.

And Gowdy, even while voting to release this memo, is emphasizing his colleagues need to leave Mueller in place. If Gowdy ends up being a hero in this whole thing I'm ... I'm not sure what.

Are any Rs publicly sticking up for Rosenstein? Haven’t seen any, which concerns me.

My fear is that people misunderstand how badly the FVRA was written. People assume Brand is next up and we've all heard she'll hold the line. But Trump legally can bypass Brand, so we should panic NOW.

In 2001, DOJ sent out this hilarious memo: "Panic is not the appropriate response to a threat of a biological/chemical attack." I thought, WTF is the appropriate response? Sorry to digress. You're right. Panic is appropriate here, but, for now, I'm just going to hold my breath.

Assuming a lot about Wray's motives that I don't think we have evidence to assume. Last week's story about Wray standing up to Trump is at odds with all the other things Wray has done to facilitate Trump's purging of the Comey witnesses and could easily have been planted by Wray

I have to wonder the same thing. Perhaps he’s giving in a little bit here and there to hold off Trump from taking major, more destructive actions. Yet it seems clear this “memo” is meant to provide cover to fire Rosenstein. None of it adds up 🧐
