The reporters who grant anonymity are NOT anonymous themselves. I am open to the idea that actual anonymity may have value, but named reporters relying on anonymous sources vs. wholly anonymous = not directly comparable.
I assume you've never seen what a d-order to Twitter will turn over? Twitter is not truly anonymous either.
The worries about bots are not about theoretically perfect anonymity, but de facto. I 100% believe that bots and fake traffic can influence editorial decisions. Think about the amount of free air time Trump recieved July 2015-Jan 2016 -- possible any of that related to artifice?
I'm going to defer this conversation. But when I return to it I will 100% defend the case that treating bots differently than anon human sources is naive.
I'm constantly locked for automated behavior. They can't figure out who's a bot.
